Matthew
Matthew shows Jesus is the continuation & fulfillment of the biblical story of God and Israel. He emphasizes that Jesus is the Messiah, from the line of David, & he is a new authoritative teacher like Moses. Jesus is God with us (Immanuel).

Luke
The Gospel of Luke tells of the origins, birth, ministry, death, resurrection, and ascension of Jesus. Together with Acts, it makes up a two-volume work which scholars call Luke–Acts.

Mark
Mark’s Gospel is a narrative proclamation that Jesus is the Messiah and Son of God, whose death and resurrection paid the penalty for our sins and achieved victory over Satan, sin, and death

John
The Gospel of John identifies Jesus as a cosmic force in the world, sent by God to love, forgive, and empower people through his presence. John’s concluding verses set out its purpose, “that you may believe that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God, and that believing you may have life in his name.”

Acts
Believed to be written by Luke, Jesus’ followers are to spread the good news about Him and His teachings “everywhere-in Jerusalem, throughout Judea, Samaria, and to the ends of the earth.” (Acts 1:8)

Romans
Paul introduces himself and his religious beliefs to Christians in Rome via this letter. He hopes to visit them soon. He wants to explain that everyone has sinned and is worthy of the death penalty, but that God will forgive and pardon those who put their trust in Jesus.

Paul’s letter to Christians in Corinth telling them to live in harmony with each other.” (Corinthians 1:10) because there have been problems with the people in the church there.

2 Corinthians
Paul’s second letter to the people of Corinth, this time defending his ministry which has been slandered and attacked by members who are spreading lies about him. He is defending himself against “intruders” who are pummeling him with deceitful criticism.

Galatians
Paul’s letter to the churches of Galatia. He is encouraging them and telling them that faith in Jesus is what saves us. We don’t need to observe Jewish laws or kosher food restrictions.

Ephesians
Paul wrote this letter to the Christians from Ephesus. It’s an upbeat letter, despite Paul writing this letter while under arrest (he’s writing “in chains”. He’s praising the readers of his letter for their solid Christian reputation, and is reminding them that Jesus is the source of their salvation. He also is giving them advice for keeping up the good work.

Philippians
Paul is thanking the church of Philippi for their generous and ongoing financial support to his ministry. He reminds them, “Above all you must live as citizens of heaven, conducting yourelves in a manner worthy of the Good News about Christ.” (Philippians 1:27)

Paul’s letter to the Colossians telling them not to let anyone con them into a fake religion. They must continue to follow Jesus and build their lives on Him.

Another letter to Thessalonians. He is reminding them to keep on serving God in spite of the persecution they’re facing. They must continue working to spread the Good News, and he reminds them that Jesus will return in God’s good timing.

1 Timothy

2 Timothy
Paul’s letter to Timothy with advice to him. He tells him not to be afraid, and asks Timothy to come to him at the prison in Rome where he is being held. Paul loves Timothy like a son. He tells Timothy to keep spreading the Good News about Jesus, and to not be afraid of suffering for the Lord.

Titus
Paul’s letter to Titus, who he left in Crete to continue organizing churches and spreading the Gospel. It’s a tough crowd since the island people of Crete are descended from mercenaries, swindlers and pirates. Although the people of Crete are spiritually sick, Paul knows that they are just the kind of people who need Jesus the most.

Philemon
Paul’s letter to a church leader named Philemon asking him to show mercy and welcome home a runaway slave named Onesimus.

Hebrews
The author is unknown. The main point is that the law-abiding Jewish religion is obsolete. When God speaks of. a ‘new’ covenant, it means He has made the first one obsolete and it is now out of date.

James
It’s uncertain which James wrote this letter; James the apostle? James who is Jesus half-brother? He is claiming that do-nothing Christians are frauds. “Can’t you see that faith without good deeds is useless?” (James 2:20). He reminds Christians to love all their ‘neighbors’, rich and poor alike.

A letter from Peter on how to survive religious discrimination, and tells them to live as God’s obedient children. Don’t slip back into your old ways of living.

John urges Christians to “remain faithful to what you have been taught from the beginning.” (John 2:24) He is warning people to beware of people who want to lead them astray from Christ, and reminds them that the Holy Spirit now lives in them…” (John 2:26-27)

Jude
Letter from Jude, who may have been Jesus’ brother. He is telling people not to believe false teachers in the church who say it’s ok to sin. He calls these people ungodly. and reminds them that God punishes sinners. History is full of proof of this.
