This world is not your home

Reminders that the earth, this world, isn’t our home. That’s possibly why I often feel out of sorts like I don’t belong here. These are biblical passages that speak to me as a reminder that this world is temporary. We’re only here for a short while in preparation for our eternal home with Jesus in heaven. Remember this always, especially when the problems of the world and my world seem overwhelming.

  • Hebrews 13:14 | For this world is not our permanent home; we are looking forward to a home yet to come. (NLT)
  • 2 Corinthians 4:18 | Fix your eyes not on what is seen, but on what is unseen. For what is seen is temporary, but what is unseen is eternal.
  • 2 Corinthians 5:1 | When this tent we live in, our body here on earth, is torn down God will have a house in Heaven for us to live in. A home He has built which will last forever.
  • 1 Peter 1:17 | If you call God your Father, live your time as temporary residents on earth.
  • 1 Peter 2:11 | Friends, this world is not your home so don’t get cozy in it. Don’t indulge your ego at the expense of your soul.

The Adversary

I learned that the word satan can be translated as adversary, so that’s what I’ll call them. The spiritual beings that have been bringing evil and pain into this world since Adam and Eve.

Finding God. His children.

I’m discovering that we aren’t all children of God, but we all have the ability to be children of God. We just have to find Jesus and become faithful to God’s laws. I think that’s kind of right??! (as of 9/11/24). We must be a child of God to be able to get into the Kingdom of Heaven. There’s more to it than that, I know. Still trying to figure this out.

  • John 14:6 | Jesus said, “I am the way, and the truth, and the life. No one comes to the father except through me.”
  • John 1:12 | Yet to all who received Him, to those who believed in His name, He gave the right to become children of God.
  • John 11:40 | Then Jesus said, “Did I not tell you that if you believed you would see the glory of God?”
  • Psalm 77:2 | When I was in deep trouble I searched for the LORD.
  • Ezekial 36:25, 27 | Then I will sprinkle clean water on you and you will be clean…and I will put my spirit in you so that you will follow my decrees and be careful to obey my regulations.

Speaking with God

God speaks to us, and how we should hear Him and speak to Him.

    • Hebrews 1:1-2 | In the past God spoke to our ancesters through the prophets at many times and in various ways, but in these last days He has spoken to us by His Son, whom He appointed heir of all things, and through whom also He made the universe.
    • James 1:5-6 | If any of you lack wisdom, let him ask of God… and. it shall be given to him. But let him ask in faith.
    • Philippians 4:6 | Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication, with thanksgiving, let your requests be known to God.
    • Matthew 7:7 | Ask and it will be given to you; seek and you will find; knock and the door will be opened to you.
    • Isaiah 48:6 (RSV) | From this time forth I make you hear new things, hidden things which you have not known

    Creation

    God is our Creator, our Master, our Boss, our Father. In an amazingly beautiful way; if we will just let Him.

    Our purpose

    God’s purpose for us isn’t our purpose for ourselves. We have to learn that, respect that, and remember that.

    God's plan to bring us home

    God’s redeeming love, grace and mercy for humans, and His plan to clean us of our sin so that we can go home to Him when we pass from the earth.

    • Romans 5:8 | But God demonstrates his own love for us in this: While we were still sinners Christ died for us.
    • Acts 2:21 | And everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved.
    • John 5:11-12 | And this is the testimony: God has given us eternal life, and this life is in his Son. He who has the Son has life; he who does not have the Son of God does not have life.
    • John 3:3 | “Unless you are born again, you cannot see the Kingdom of God.”
    • John 3:16 | For God so loved the world that He gave His one and only Son, so that whoever believed in Him would never perish, but have eternal life.

    Jesus

      Surrendering to God's Plan

      Surrendering to God so He can guide us toward His purpose for us. So we can grow in our love for Him, other people, and living His message.

      • Proverbs 16:3 | Commit to the LORD whatever you do, and He will establish your plans.
      • Isaiah 60:22 | When the time is right I, the LORD, will make it happen.
      • Jeremiah 29:11 | “For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord. “Plans to prosper you and not harm you. Plans to give you hope and a future.”

        God Has Feelings

        God has feelings. Very strong feelings. He loves us and feels our feelings as a parent feels a child’s feelings. He gets angry with us, and He is happy with us. Just as any parent is with their children.

        God is with us

        God is our Creator, our Master, our Boss, our Father. In an amazingly beautiful way; if we will just let Him.

        • Deuteronomy 31:6  | Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid or terrified because of them, for the Lord your God goes with you; He will never leave you nor forsake you.
        • 1 Samuel 2:9 | God guards the feet of his faithful ones, but the wicked die in darkness because no one succeeds by strength alone.
        • 2 Chronicles 15:2b | The LORD is with you when you are with Him. If you seek Him, He will be found by you, but if you forsake Him He will forsake you.
        • Ezra 8:22 | The hand of our God is upon all those for good who seek Him.

        Obeying God

        We are God’s creation. We have to remember that. Although He loves us, He also expects us to follow His laws and His rules. he doesn’t want unruly evil people in His perfect Kingdom of Heaven.

        • 1 Kings | And observe what the LORD your God requires: Walk in obedience to him, and keep his decrees and commands, his laws and regulations, as written in the Law of Moses. Do this so that you may prosper in all you do and wherever you go.

        Struggling. Need Rescue.

        I’ve found that sometimes God requires us to go into the deepest of depths of struggle and pain and despair, so that we can find Him. It often takes something like that to truly remind us that He is here to help us. We just need to keep banging on the door.
