Hebrews 1:1-2
- We should establish ourselvews ina sense of God’s presence, by continually conversing with Him.
- It’s a shameful thing to quit His conversation, to think of trifles and fooleries.
- We out to give ourselves up to God, with regard both to things temporal and spiritual, and seek our satisfaction only in the fulfilling of His will, whether He leads up by suffering or consolation, for all would be equal to a soul truly resigned.
- God gives light concerning those passions to those who truly desire to serve Him.
- If my desire is to sincerely serve God, I can/should come to Him as oftens as I please without any fear of being troublesome; but if ot, that I ought no more to visit Him.
- We need to be resolute in our faith, particularly in those times when we don’t hear from Him or sense Him or when we’ve been distracted by earthly things. It’s during these times that God tries our love to Him; that then is the time for us to make good and effectual acts of prayer. One prayer alone would oftentimes very much promote our spiritual advancement (page 6).
- In order to form a habit of conversing with God continually and referring all we do to Him, we must at first apply to Him with some diligence, but that after a little care we should find His love inwardly excite us to it without any difficulty.
- We ought to act with God in the greatest simplicity, speaking to Him frankly and plainly and imploring His assitance in our affairs just as they ahppen.
- The trust we put in God honors Him.
- Brother Lawrence said… He (God) would gie him strength to bear whatever evil He permitted to happen to him.
- To get to God we need only a heart resolutely determined to apply itself to nothing but Him, or for His sake, and to love Him only.
- We need only to recognize God intimately present with us, to address ourselves to Him every moment so that we may beg His assistance for knowing His will in things doubtful, and for rightly performing those which we plainly see He requires of us, offering them to Him before we do them, and giving Him thanks when we have done. (page 12)
